Have you heard of B Corps?
They are businesses that give as much consideration to their social and environmental impact as they do to their financial returns.
In my mind that makes them pretty awesome.
So who are they?
You’ve probably heard of Ben and Jerry’s, Innocent Drinks, Abel and Cole, Who Gives a Crap and The Body Shop without even realising they were B Corps. When it comes to clothing and footwear, they also include:
Patagonia, JoJo Maman Bebe, Finisterre, Allbirds, Eileen Fisher, Toms, Veja, Tentree, Kathmandu and Vivo Barefoot
They are all fantastic companies doing great things for people and planet. If buying secondhand isn’t your thing, rest assured these companies are a brilliant alternative for you.
I just wanted to hone in on one company in particular though as they deserve some recognition. for the good work they are doing.
Yala is an award-winning African jewellery brand and the very first jewellery company in the UK to become a Certified B Corporation.
I love them because they create ethical jewellery that is made to last with collaborators who are paid fairly using materials that are eco-friendly and create as little environmental impact as possible. What’s not to like about that?
I came across the founder Audrey Migot-Adholla via a podcast of all things and was very excited to hear she is based right here in Bristol!
Audrey works directly with over 150 artisans in Kenya, ensuring they receive fair wages, have safe and healthy work environments, and receive real recognition for their talent.
If you buy one of their pieces you know that it directly empowers women of the Maasai tribe and fellow Kenyan artisans.
