I know many of you have tried buying on Vinted and have had great success but many more tell me that you’d like to try selling but don’t know how. Honestly, it’s easier and quicker than you think so to help you get started I’m going to share my top 12 tips when it comes to selling like a pro!
First up are tips around photography because the quality of your images really does make a difference. You don’t need a fancy camera but putting a little bit of thought into the pictures can mean much better results.
Please keep reading for six tips to help you get more buyers to your listings!
1/ Show the whole item.
For example if you are listing a maxi dress, make sure you can see the full length of it in the shot not just a close-up of one part. Also make this image the first photo people see if you are uploading multiple shots. Up to 20 photos can be added per listing so do take more than one picture if you can. I often do a full length shot, a side shot, a back shot, a close-up of the size label, a close-up of the fabric label and any special features of the item.
2/ Make sure the lighting is good.
Daylight is always your best bet and helps ensure the colour in your photos is a good match to the actual item. Artificial lights or using the flash can sometimes mean the colours show up in a different way and potentially lead to unhappy buyers.
3/ Keep your background plain
and uncluttered if possible. This just means that your item stands out more and ideally your background is a different colour to the item itself so you can see it better.
4/ Display your item as best as possible.
If it is an item of clothing, it is better to put it on a hanger or a mannequin if you have one or you could even wear the item yourself and have someone take a picture (you can always obscure your face or crop the photo at your neck if you’re shy!).
5/ If you are showing multiple items in one picture you must say which part is for sale
and which isn’t. For example, if you were listing a dress and styled it on a mannequin with a separate belt, you must say that the belt is not included in the purchase otherwise it can lead to unhappy buyers.
6/ Take photos of any defects
to help demonstrate any issues. Just being honest with you audience helps you gain trust from your buyers and means there’s no surprises along the line.
So once you’ve got your images sorted, here are 6 more general tips to consider. They are tried and tested and are ones which have helped me sell more items as well as quicker.
7/ List little and often.
If you have 20 items to sell, don’t try and upload all 20 in one go. Instead, it’s much better to list three or four items a night which means you are constantly at the top of the new item feed. This is important because typically items are filtered by what’s new.
8/ List in size groups.
This means try to add your items in groups of the same size because buyers will be searching by their size and if they discover your listings and see multiple items in that size, they are more likely to buy a bundle of items to save on postage costs. Which leads nicely to
9/ Turn on bundle discounts in your settings.
This is because Vinted encourages buyers to purchase more than one item from sellers with the use of bundle discounts. As an example, if the buyer purchases 2 items they get a 5% discount, 3 items 10% and 5 items 20% off etc. It’s a great way to sell more items to the same buyer (and saves you trips for posting!)
10/ Price realistically.
Because buyers can make offers, you might want to price very slightly higher than the price you want to achieve. This means you can negotiate a price which you both agree on or not if anyone takes advantage of your bundle discounts it means you still get the price you want. Most shoppers on Vinted want to feel like they got a bargain, so if there’s wriggle room in your prices you may get more sales. I should also point out here that there are no selling fees on Vinted and the postage is added on top so that doesn’t have to be factored into your price. The price a buyer buys at is the amount you will receive.
11/ Upload your items when most people are browsing.
This tends to mean evenings after 7pm as it’s generally when people have finished work and are sitting on the sofa scrolling!
12/ Consider Payday planning
because the week following payday is one of the busiest for sales as peoples bank accounts have been replenished! The last working day of the month continues to be the most popular pay day for companies using monthly payrolls followed by the 25th of the month, the 28th of the month and lastly on the 15th of the month.
